Home Maintenance Tips for Spring

By Helen Adams Realty - March 06, 2023

With the arrival of spring in the Carolinas, it's time to take care of seasonal home maintenance tasks to prepare for the warmer weather. As a result, we’ve compiled a list of important tasks to tackle to ensure your home is ready all season long:

Routine Maintenance

One of the best, and most important, parts of your home maintenance will be your general items, no matter the time of year.  Items you should be doing each month are:

  • Test smoke alarms & carbon monoxide detectors

  • Clean garbage disposal

  • Clean air vents

  • Check and replace HVAC filters (every 2-3 months)

Head Outside

With the weather warming up, your yard is about to see more and more action. This is a great time to get everything outside in top shape, and ready for anything the Spring season throws at it. These items include:

  • Clean out gutters and downspouts

  • Check for exterior and roof damage, and repair if necessary

  • Clean and repair sprinkler systems

  • Replace damaged window and door screens

  • Clean windows

  • Clean outdoor furniture

  • Prune bushes and shrubs

  • Clear out and/or replace dead plants

  • Remove debris from around HVAC unit and clean filters

    • Pro Tip: Schedule professional maintenance to check your system's efficiency before the temperatures get too high

Inside the Home

While the exterior of your home is being thoroughly inspected and maintained, now is a great time to go ahead and give the inside of your home some extra attention. Some often-forgotten, but key tasks are:

  • Clean curtains and blinds

  • Set fan directions to spin counterclockwise

  • Clean hard-to-reach areas, such as window and door frames and under furniture

  • Inspect attics and basements for damage, leaks, or issues

It’s important to remember that this is not an exhaustive list of Spring maintenance for your home. Depending on your home and lifestyle, there may be even more to-dos to get your home ready for the new season. Need help with some or all of these projects? Your Helen Adams Realty agent is happy to help with recommendations for everything from lawn work, windows, inspections, and more.
